What is SMECommunity.com? SMECommunity.com is a private-sector initiative to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore to have an online presence. Funded entirely by Signetique IT Pte Ltd, a leading e-commerce and web hosting provider in Singapore, SMECommunity.com seeks to remove the final barriers for SMEs to go online. SMEs who sign up with SMECommunity.com will receive free web hosting and email services perpetually. There will not be any recurring costs. Unlike most other 'free services' now available, SMECommunity.com will not place any pop up banners or advertisements at the SMEs' websites. Additionally, SMECommunity.com will offer a free web content management tool, ContentManager, to allow SMEs to easily set up a website without any programming knowledge. A professional-looking website can be setup using the Content Manager in as little as 5 minutes. Free technical support will be given to SMEs to learn how to use this tool. To benefit from this scheme, SMEs will have to pay a one-time, non-refundable, setup fee of just S$100.00. No other charges apply.

. Charges apply for customers who wish to host their email accounts elsewhere. A nominal charge of S$5.00 per month applies.
Conditions SMEs on this scheme must agree to accept email newsletters from SMECommunity.com. Each company is entitled to one account only. Each company must provide proof that the company is a legally registered company in Singapore. This offer is opened for all SMEs only. Therefore, no personal websites nor MNCs' websites will be able to enjoy the benefits of this scheme. Signetique IT Pte Ltd reserves the right to terminate any account if a company violates SBA's guidelines on Internet usage and Signetique's hosting policies.
About Webmail The web-based email (Webmail) functions much like ordinary email clients offered by Netscape's Messenger or Microsoft's Outlook Express. It has an address book and allows the creation of multiple directories. It is reliable and easy-to-use to use and allows total convenience for the frequent travellers as a user can log in to his email via any web browsers. It functions much like Hotmail. In fact, it is running on the same mail transport agent that Hotmail originally uses: Qmail. Webmail differs from pop3 email accounts though. A user will not be able to use offline email clients like the aforementioned Netscape Messenger or Microsoft Outlook Express to access his email. All email access must be made via the browser. However, a user may store emails on the Webmail for offline reading by using his web browser's "Save As" function. The standard diskspace for each Webmail account offered on this scheme is 8MB, large enough for most organizations. There will not be any banner ads nor sponsor links on the Webmail interface.
SMECommunity.com will also not attach any marketing messages at the end of an email message sent out from Webmail, unlike other free web-based emails offerings. Thus, an email sent from Webmail will appear professional, bearing only the identity and domain name of the originator. Webmail allows a user to customize and attach a personalized signature at the end of his email messages for that added personal touch.
